I'm a DJ. Hey, who isn't? I spend money on vinyl and try and get it heard in public. Often it's $2 a pop at such stylee places as the Statue Bargain Barn in Paraparaumu, but often $45 for an obscure record at Flipside just cos it has one song on it that I happen to like.

Event of the year: I played at The Gathering on New Year's Day 1999. The Gathering is New Zealand's biggest outdoor celebration of dance music and other stuff. It's a massive 48 hour annual outdoor event held on the top of the South Island in a magical place called Takaka. To see pics and read my rant on the subject, please click here.

Every Monday from midday til 2pm you can hear my squeaky voice and a selection of fine tunes when I do a radio show on Active 89FM. If you're not in Wellington you can tune in via Real Audio by following this link . I also pop up on Mondays around 9:45am on Will's breakfast show to do a spot on kewl places to visit on the net. Feel free to email me your latest site recommendations. (FREE PUBLICITY for your site ...)

In case you're curious, my fixation with lounge musak started back in the late 80's when I worked for Radio NZ International - they hadn't had a spend up on music since the mid 60's and I got into some serious cheese. When I play in public, I generally do a blend of retro lounge and upbeat jazz, and mix it up with some modern house, rare grooves, a smattering of disco and anything funky.

I've played on various occasions at the Matterhorn, Valve, Q, Tupelo, Orientation '99 and also at a few parties. Luckily my vinyl collection runs from Latino Mancini to bad new romantic musak, ideal for theme parties.

Speaking of theme parties ... Airport 99, March 27 1999 (duh!). Follow this link to see what you missed out on, or potentially experienced but can't remember due to gross inhalation/intoxication/over stimulation etc etc.

Once you're done looking at all that, check out how the BIG DAY OUT fared earlier this year. (The BDO is a massive day long rock concert featuring five stages and more bands than you can find at an MTV casting party).

E mail me if you're interested in hiring Special K for a nite of sublime entertainment. (as a DJ of course! Sheesh!) I can also do you a good deal on a white T shirt with the above logo emblazoned across the front.
