Well, depending on my mood ... I tend to listen to one thing ALL the
time. It all started when I used to only bring one CD to work ... now I
find it's a great way to get to know a recording.
Once, for example, I listened to the Neil Diamond double CD for almost 8
hours. (I know, I know, I should win a prize). I have a variety of stuff
in my CD player or on my turntable (for you youngin's, a turntable is a
round thing which plays vinyl).
I have been a big loungehead since the late 80's, I blame working at Radio
NZ International, where they hadn't had a big spend up on new music since
the 60's. Occasionally you can catch me DJing as "Special K" at
the Matterhorn on Cuba Street. I play a mix of cheese, jazz and swingy lounge.
I used to be a mod girl, then a goth, so my music taste is quite eclectic;
I'll always love NIN ... and I have a soft spot for Depeche Mode. The new
album Ultra is worth a listen. This
guy is a HUGE DM fan, check out his cool site. White Zombie (especially
the remixes!), the Cure and the Pixies are sentimental favs of mine too.
I have a few hundred CD's and lots of vinyl. It's a pretty weird collection
- Pizzicato Five to Freak Power to The Beastie Boys to the Spawn soundtrack.
My most recent CD purchase - Bob Sinclar "Paradise" - Ok so it's
been out for yonks, but it's on special now for NZ$24.95, bargain. (French
disco if you haven't heard of him). Just got some great CD's for my birthday
too - best one was the David Holmes DOUBLE Essential Mix CD. YUM!
My absolutely favourite music discovery this Millennium (!) has to be RECOIL:
Unsound Methods. I ordered it via CD-Now. I hadn't heard one song off it,
but I really like Alan Wilder's musical sensibility. It was a gamble that
paid off. This is a really terrific CD - dark, sexy electronica.
